A bit more about me…
Welcome to this little space where I can share some of my heart. It feels so fitting and right to do so after spending a week long pilgrimage with my son to our fourth Spirit Weavers Gathering in Cave Junction, Oregon, an absolutely magical place. This particular time at the gathering felt like a real heart opener for me & I look forward to keeping that up in my day-to-day life.
I envision this blog to be a place where I can go a bit more in-depth about who I am, what I’m into, & my practice. To go beyond the basic info and give you a feel for what I’m all about.
I know that for me, when I chose a doula for the birth of my son, I went on instinct. That gut feeling that told me that that was the woman I felt I could trust and who I wanted to invite into such a vulnerable, expansive time in my life. Perhaps I’ll be that person for you.
So here goes:
My name is Allison Green and I am a mother of a 7 year old son living in the SF Bay Area. We recently moved back to the area after living in Boise, Idaho for 7 years. Before that, my husband & I (along with our precious dog & cat) lived in Santa Cruz and then the Santa Cruz mountains. It feels good to be back! My favorite people and places are here so this feels like home.
While living in Boise, we created a straw bale ADU (accessory dwelling unit) in our backyard. That was a labor of love and it felt so good to express our creativity but it was also very difficult. We had a young child to tend to without a village and my husband worked full time so he would work all day then come home and we would work until bedtime on the straw bale project. We were so particular about all the details that we didn’t make it easy on ourselves. I personally lime-plastered the entire inside & out of the building (even the ceilings which if you know, you know!). In the end, it turned out beautiful and I’m very proud of it but also feel completely at peace leaving it behind in Boise. Check out the project here.
I’m a dabbler in many hobbies. There’s just so many things I’m interested in and I love to work with my hands! I love to learn new things. I’m interested in weaving, felting, natural plant dyeing, hide tanning, herbalism, gardening, etc. & I recently got into beekeeping and sourdough (which I’ve tried off and on for years but this time it finally clicked). I love heart to heart conversations over tea. I love going camping and hiking all around the Central Coast and Northern California. Point Reyes and Big Sur hold special places in my heart and I make sure to go there as often as possible.
Flowers are essential to my happiness. I used to think that roses were old lady flowers and was uninterested in them but a few years ago when I was deep in my postpartum return they called to me and I’ve been in love with them ever since. Maybe they are grandmother flowers and that’s just what I was needing. I’m so thankful that I heeded their call.
I stayed home with my son for the first years of his life. That was what felt right for me personally at the time but I am now ready to step back out and offer my services as a birth and postpartum doula and as a Birth Story Medicine Listener. Birth work is something that I have felt called to for years and I’m excited to birth these offerings out into the world at this time when it feels so right.
Connect with me if you feel called to do so.
With love,
Allison
